Poketo x Booooooom Wallet Series
A few months ago I was invited by Jeff Hamada from Booooooom.com to design a wallet for Poketo's new series, among 3 amazing Canadian artists- Josh Holinaty, Winnie Truong and Howie Tsui. The theme of the series is Afterlife. Wallets can be ordered here. :}

not-so-digtal

This is the new concert poster which I struggled to come up with an interesting design for ..tried out different illustrations then noticed the limit of what a digital drawing can do. This is inspired by those missing kitties posters on the street, but instead its posted on a tree..perhaps in a forest setting. Contact Staggered Works if you have seen the wolfgirl~
I realized this blog has visitors from Norway, Pakistan, Aruba and Iran, maybe from search engines. But if ur new to the site, feel free to leave me a comment :)

Typography Posters

2 new posters from the 2-day typography posters class.
My teachers runs an design/animation studio called Anderson M that produces a lot of cool and edgy stuff and also music. I just realized that they made one of my all-time-favorite animations on youtube - A map comes to life.

What I did on my birthday
Here is what I did on Feb 1st, 2009.
To conclude the illustration course, we had one and a half week to illustrate 3 articles, and we had 4 to choose from - the financial crisis continues, the pope on youtube, factories paying green tax, and the hypochondriacs. At first I struggled to come up with good ideas..then I had an idea about financial crisis, a time when parents regret having so many kids..and the kids turns into disgusting pink baby birds (somebody told me they look like rats).

Feb 2nd..
the ex- hypochondriac is able to give birth to himself on a hospital bed by crawl out from his diseased skin

and Feb 3rd
Instead of going to the church on Sunday, hardcore catholics are having a meeting at an internet cafe watching the Vatican Youtube channel.

After reading Nate William's Article about starting an illustration career, I'm once again lead back to the same old dilemma...which is commiting to a consistent style. As an artist I have been telling myself that it is okay to experiment. In fact I've been experimenting for years..I can switch to a totally new style every time and I get bored easily, but when it comes to looking for work, I never realized the importance of sticking to a certain style.........they called it "branding" (very business-like). So here's the 2nd poster I did for Staggered Works. Again, it's something different from what I usually do (What do I usually do?). At least I haven't done collages in a while.

andreawan.com
andreawan.com is up finally!
I was delighted to see the compliment of an old friend about my new work because I was once a fan of his, back in the days when my hair was still bright green and spiky. I don't remember the specific drawings which I showed him, but they must be embarrassing (I use this term more often now).
By the way, Happy Chinese New Year :D

Dear Hungry Students
Here are some pages from my semester project - a book comparing my home country to Denmark. Yes its an extremely boring (or you may say challenging) topic that we exchange students must live with. I just narrowed it down to food instead of pointing out general differences. Since I've been here food has always been the biggest concern for me (both physically and socially) in this small boring town. Food is definitely what I miss the most in Vancouver besides my family and friends...so there you go.

Calendar Cover
Cover design for the exchange students calendar. I was too late to choose a month so I had to design the cover - a combination of the best sellers - nudes, puppies, kittens and flowers.

Come come!
Typography installation from Andrea Wan on Vimeo.
Marià (my lovely roomate and design genius) and I made a installation together for our second typography assignment: expressing a line from Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's fan
We're all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.
We found a room that has a tiny door that leads to another room. The second room also has a tiny door in it which we find very strange. We put a "We're all in the gutter" on the door using the font of Designskolen Kolding (we actually asked the head of design for this typeface especially designed for the school and he gave it to us). When one opens the door....tada. He will see the projection of "but some of us are looking at the stars" on the 2nd door.
Because this assignment is not limited to print, I first wanted to try something more tactile. I found some cardboards from a dumpster and cut out the words in Futura. I kinda like this trashy look but I didn't go on with this idea at last.
