Nylon Magazine Illustration

This is a new illustration I did for Nylon Magazine's May 2010 Issue. The article, written by Paul Caine, is about the competitive film industry and the different ways for independent filmmakers to get their films out there. Having a background in film and animation, I feel really lucky to be able to work on this fun topic without any restrictions on the concept. The gorilla girl at the bottom is supposed to be me by the way!

Fucking Amal

I was invited by Paul Paper to participate in his project Postcards to Alphaville. He gave out a list of films and asked each artist to choose one film to watch and do a portrait of a specific character.  My choice was a Swedish film called Fucking Amal directed by Lukas Moodysson- about Two teenage girls falling in love in a small town. Can't wait to see contributions from other artists!

REVOLVE at Vancouver Asian Film Festival

My animated short, Revolve, was screened at Vancouver Asian Film Festival last week. It was shown on the opening night with a feature length film, Children of Invention directed by Tze Chun. It was exciting and scary at the same time to see my film on the big screen and speak about it in public. The 4-day festival was an awesome experience!

News

First of all I'm delighted to be featured on Epilogue Magazine this week. Epilogue is a relatively new online publication that features works and interviews from creatives. I really like the magazine for its minimalist aesthetic. Another good news is that my animated film Revolve has been selected for the upcoming Vancouver Asian Film Festival and it will be screened at Cinemark Tinseltown Theatre in November.

Baby Action

Last week I helped my friend Johan on his test shoot for a kids TV program. Its a game show where the children (age 6-9) have to draw a word from a box and spin the wheel with different genres, then use the word and the genre to make a short film. They're given 15 mins to make a story, choose their own costumes, make a background for the scene and act it out themselves as we the adults help them to film. The show is totally driven by the kids and the adults are only there for technical support. Its amazing how little time they used to come up with a story.

A team of 2 boys got the word "baby" and their genre is action. They made an awesome film about a family (all members played by the same kid) arriving at Hawaii during their one-year vacation. It smells like fart in Hawaii and the family took out their guns and started shooting at the babies on the island.
